Couples Therapy Intensive

One full day together, in person, with time to stay with what matters until it shifts.

Some couples find that by the time a session warms up, it’s time to stop. The conversation gets close to the real thing, then the hour ends, and the next week starts over from the surface.

An intensive gives you a full day together, in person, with time to stay with what matters until it shifts. Instead of spreading the work across months, we slow down and go deep in one setting, so you leave with more clarity about what’s happening between you and what each of you needs.

Who intensives are for

Couples choose an intensive for different reasons. You might be:

  • Stuck in the same argument and ready to understand what’s underneath it
  • Facing a major decision, transition, or rupture that needs real time and attention
  • Recovering from a breach of trust and wanting a structured place to begin
  • Already in couples therapy and looking for momentum
  • Short on time for weekly sessions, but committed to the work

What the day looks like

Your intensive takes place in our Santa Clara office. The day moves between time together as a couple and individual time with each of you. Those individual segments give each partner room to reflect, settle, and integrate what they’ve heard before we come back together. There are breaks built in throughout, because this work asks a lot and your nervous system needs space to keep up.

Kali draws on Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. In practice that means getting curious about the protective patterns each of you brings to conflict, and making room for the more vulnerable parts underneath them.

Is an intensive right for us?

We start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk about what’s bringing you in and whether an intensive is a good fit. For some couples, weekly couples therapy is a better starting point, and we’ll tell you honestly if we think so.

Intensives are not the right format when there is ongoing physical violence or safety concerns in the relationship. In those situations, we’ll help you find the right kind of support.

Rates and details

Pricing for the intensive is available on request.

An intensive is a different commitment from a weekly session: your therapist blocks out an entire day of sessions for the two of you, and not every therapist offers this kind of service. We share pricing and availability during your free consultation.

Like all Satva services, it is private pay. We do not bill insurance, and superbills are not available for intensives. Rescheduling requires at least 48 hours’ notice, since the day reserves a full block of time.

Questions couples ask

Do we need to be in therapy already?

No. Some couples come to an intensive on its own, and others use it alongside ongoing couples work. We’ll talk through what makes sense in your consultation.

What if one of us is more hesitant than the other?

That’s very common. Hesitation is welcome in the room, and we pace the day so both of you can participate in a way that feels manageable.

Will you keep things one of us shares privately?

We follow a no-secrets policy in couples work. If something shared in individual time is relevant to the relationship, it won’t be held from your partner. We’ll go over this together before the day begins so there are no surprises.

What happens after the intensive?

We’ll talk about next steps at the end of the day. Some couples continue with regular sessions, and others schedule a follow-up check-in.
